Immigration news

About a third of the World’s population is on “lockdown” due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.  There are severe restrictions on movement with people being unable to travel and having to stay at home.  The Countries that have amongst the toughest largescale quarantine measures are the UK, France, Italy, Poland, New Zealand and India.

Donald Trump is considering ending the US “lockdown” from the beginning of May.  Health experts are uncertain about this.  It could take longer to make sure that there are suitable tests to find out if people have coronavirus and also if they have had it in the past without knowing about it.

Sanwar Ali comment:

Granting UK permanent residence (properly known as indefinite leave to remain) to migrants in the NHS, who are risking their lives during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic would be a nice gesture.  It is also being suggested that this concession should be extended to family members as well.

Sanwar Ali comment:

If you are unable to travel due to coronavirus or because you are self isolating you can apply to remain at least until 31 May 2020.  There is a simple online UK visa application form that needs to be completed.

Sanwar Ali comment:

With the continuing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic surely there should be a significant reduction in UK visa related fees. These fees were unaffordable even before coronavirus. It is even more unaffordable now. UK fees are amongst the highest in the World.

Sanwar Ali comment:

It is perhaps not surprising that there will be problems with the new H1B visa registration system.  This was brought in to deal with the huge demand for H1B visas and to fairly allocate the quota.  If you are successful you can then submit your full H1B visa application, which could of course be denied.
