In the hope of encouraging skilled immigration to low population and low growth areas, Australia will give potential migrants an additional 10 points for those moving to those areas. Successful applicants who have been sponsored by a state or territory government will be granted a three-year temporary visa, with settlement in regional/low growth areas of Australia.

Two European countries this week made the immigration headlines, with changes to their immigration policies likely in the future. An opinion piece pointed out that Germany's immigration policy could become a focus in Germany's upcoming elections, and that with the lowest birthrate in all of Europe, Germany will have to change its policies.

Canada's Prince Edward Island is sponsoring a study about its immigrants in order to prepare its new population strategy, to be released later this summer. The new population strategy will include plans to convince former Islanders to return home, and to prevent people living there already from leaving. However, a large part of the plan will focus on bringing more immigrants from foreign countries to the Island.
