Immigration news

According to a report published by The Telegraph, the Biden administration has been left ‘embarrassed’ and faced ridicule from Republicans after ‘quietly agreeing’ to complete part of former US President Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant border wall in a known US immigration hotspot.

According to official government data, more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived safely in Britain under two UK visa schemes. The Homes for Ukraine Scheme and Ukraine Family Scheme were emergency UK immigration routes launched to help Ukrainians fleeing their homeland following the Russian invasion in February 2022.

Johan Lundgren, the CEO of budget airline EasyJet, has blasted the British government’s refusal to allow more UK visas for EU cabin crew and ground handling staff. Amid ongoing travel chaos following a spate of flight cancellations, Lundgren argued that easing UK immigration restrictions would ‘ease the pressure on aviation’.

A report published by The Guardian reveals that children accommodated in a Home Office hotel were fed worms by a government contractor. It’s understood that a four-year-old, who unknowingly ate fish and chips containing worms, started vomiting shortly after eating the meal. Paramedics were alerted and took the boy to a hospital.

Describing the experience, his father said that his son had ‘experienced sickness along with a fever for three days’, and that other family members who had consumed the same meal were experiencing similar symptoms. The family have asked to remain anonymous amid the shocking revelations.

A new report published by the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP), a nonpartisan research organization, reveals that US immigrants have founded more than half (55%) of America’s startup companies valued at $1 billion or more. In fact, close to two-thirds (64%) of US billion-dollar businesses have been founded by immigrants or children of immigrants.

Furthermore, according to the NFAP research, nearly 80% of America’s privately-held unicorn companies have an immigrant founder or an immigrant in a key leadership role.

The US is edging closer to scrapping green card country caps, potentially easing restrictions on immigration for skilled foreign workers. Two US Senators have introduced the Equal Access to Green Cards for Legal Employment (EAGLE) Act of 2022 in the US Senate. Under the Act, the 7% per country cap on US green cards would be eliminated.
