US Republican Congressman John Rutherford has filed a bill that could allow job creators, who have been in the US on an E2 treaty investor visa for more than 10 years, to apply for legal permanent residence. A press release issued by Rutherford’s office confirmed that the bill, H.R. 3265, has been filed.
The new legislation could allow the children of E2 visa holders to remain in the United States until the age of 26 and then apply for work authorization. Under current US immigration law, thousands of E2 visa holders are welcomed into communities, establish businesses and employ American citizens, but are ineligible for permanent residency status.
Plans to station armed US immigration enforcement officers at UK airports could result in higher air fares and additional security checks for British holidaymakers heading to America, as well as those travelling to the US on visas such as the E2 Treaty Investor, L1 visa, or Green Cards. Transatlantic passengers face immigration pre-clearance checks before boarding a flight, with the new procedures currently being discussed by Washington and Whitehall officials.
The move could see airlines forced to pay for US security staff, plus their families, to live in the UK. It’s likely that the additional cost of hosting US immigration officers will be passed on to passengers travelling to the States from the UK.
Despite a manifesto that calls for an almost complete stop to immigration, Britain First – a far-right-political party in the UK – is actively looking to recruit Polish immigrants. Although the group has no elected officials at any level of government, they have amassed 1.9 million likes on Facebook – more than any other political party in the country.
Bizarrely, the group is now leveraging its social media influence to target Polish immigrants living in the UK. A series of Britain First propaganda videos have been launched online, specifically aimed at a Polish audience. According to a BBC report, recent videos include one from Jacek Miedlar, a Polish far-right former priest.
