Immigration news

Sanwar Ali comment:

There have been a number of problems with UK visas and Immigration at the Home Office.  This includes a number of allegations of racial discrimination.  There have also been much publicised examples of bad decision making.   The harsh immigration environment has caused a number of problems.  If you continue to have tough and restrictive immigration laws it is perhaps inevitable that there will be more injustice.  People under the Tier 2 Sponsor Licence and Tier 2 visa scheme have also been treated harshly

Sanwar Ali comment:

It is now a requirement for most US visa applications that you need to provide your social media account names.  Presumably this will lead to even more delays and more refusals of US visa applications.  This decision has been a top US visa related news story for about the last month.  It has been said that in reality the US has been vetting social media accounts for some time anyway.

Sanwar Ali comment:

The Tier 1 Post-Study UK visa category and it’s predecessor the International Graduates Scheme was very popular in the past.  If Brexit does eventually happen there will be a greater demand for overseas workers.  Bringing back a new post study work visa scheme could help with skills shortages.

Sanwar Ali comment:

This is another way for Trump to reduce levels of immigration into the US. Is this fair and ethical? The law is there to protect these people.  Perhaps it is inevitable that Presidents will try to use their power to make it difficult to implement laws that they do not like.  Obama also tried to make changes using Executive Orders.

Sanwar Ali comment:

There are allegations of widespread racial discrimination and institutional racism at UK Visa and Immigration at the Home Office and those sponsored by them.  This makes bad decision making more likely.

Sanwar Ali comment:

Legally it would surely be impossible to have a specific cap for Indians.   In addition, it seems to be extremely difficult to pass major changes to US visa legislation in Congress to make this happen.  Successive Presidents including both Trump and Obama have had great difficulty passing major US visa legislation.
