Boris Johnson comes from a very multi-cultural, multi-ethnic background. He has Turkish Muslim, Russian Jewish, and French and English ancestry. Perhaps the first Prime Minister with some Muslim ancestry who even said “my fellow Turks”, interestingly, in comments opposing Turkish membership of the EU in April 2016.

Since the Tier 1 General visa scheme ended the Tier 2 sponsor licence and Tier 2 visa scheme have become the main route for entry for skilled workers into the UK. The problem with this scheme is that it is expensive and difficult to come under both for employers and employees. Not many people can come under alternative visa categories such as Tier 1 Exceptional Talent visa, or the Innovator and Start Up visa
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to persuade UK Visa and Immigration at the Home Office to admit that they have done something wrong. Denial is the typical response. In the past high ranking civil servants have made numerous statements to cover things up. Some of the time if there is enough bad publicity UK Visa changes its mind.
The ICO Information Commissioners Office has a history of bias and seems to be too cosy in its relationship towards other Regulators, and it seems UK visa at the Home Office as well. Too much of the time they seem to be terrified of upsetting Government officials or crypto Government officials.

The Tier 1 Post-Study UK visa category and it’s predecessor the International Graduates Scheme was very popular in the past. If Brexit does eventually happen there will be a greater demand for overseas workers. Bringing back a new post study work visa scheme could help with skills shortages.
