UK immigration rule changes from 19 November 2015

UK Visas and Immigration announced the latest changes to immigration rules on October 29 2015. The majority of changes will affect applications lodged on or after 19 November 2015, with new rules being implemented across nearly every UK immigration route.

Immigration restrictions on Tier 2 visas hurts the UK

The UK economy will continue to suffer should the current policy on tier 2 visas continue. The situation where ever more restrictive immigration laws and procedures are being introduced can only serve to make things worse. The government it seems is strongly in favour of making it even more difficult for tier 2 non-EU skilled migrants to enter and stay in the UK.

There was a public consultation by the Migration Advisory Committee from 2 July 2015 to 25 September 2015 on the Tier 2 visa scheme. The Government has had this consultation in the hope that they can justify even more restrictive Tier 2 visa regulations.

The US L-1A and L-1B non-immigrant Visa Option

Unfortunately, in the US for most people there are only a limited number of temporary work visa options. These are based on an employer petitioning for entry of highly skilled workers on a non-immigrant visa.

The H-1B visa quota for graduate level staff runs out almost as soon as it becomes available in the beginning of April each year. In many cases the L-1A for managers/executives and the L-1B for specialized knowledge workers are the only options available for entry to the US.

London Met threatened with Tier 2 Sponsorship Licence revocation

UK Immigration has been criticised for 'outrageous interference in the running of London Metropolitan University,' according to a report published by Times Higher Education.

Documents confirm that the institution faced almost certain insolvency as the UKBA (United Kingdom Border Agency, which was the previous Government agency in charge of immigration) informed them that their Tier 4 visa sponsorship licence application would be refused and that they risked having their Tier 2 sponsorship licence revoked unless a controversial governor was removed from its board.
