There are several vacancies available in Australia that need to be filled immediately. Employers in Perth, Western Australia are seeking metal fabricators, boilermakers and carpenters. Australian work visas are available for the right candidates.

There is a shortage of nurses throughout Canada. The shortage is especially severe in Quebec where there are vacancies for nurses of many kinds.

Canada will need 60,000 more nurses by 2022. Nurses in Montreal  can expect to be paid US$28-40 per hour.

Applications from China to Australian educational institutions are soaring after several years of decline. A Chinese education agent says that the main reason that Chinese students are choosing Australia is the country's liberal immigration policy. 

Around 300,000 Chinese students go to study abroad every year. Wang Wei, the general manager of Crossworld International Education Centre says 'since [the] US and Britain are quite tight with their immigration policies…Australia has a better chance to attract more students’.

Dame Helen Ghosh, the Permanent Secretary to the UK’s Home Office, told the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee that UK immigrationagencies had made too many staff redundant. She said that 104 staff who were made redundant have since been re-employed.

UK immigration agencies made over 1700 people redundant between 2010 and 2012. Staff shortages at UK airports in April 2012 led to lengthy delays for people arriving at UK airports. The UK government is currently recruiting 70 more staff to work in passport control at Heathrow Airport 

A report issued by the Toronto Dominion Bank says that, Canada will need 350,000 migrants annually to replace retiring workers from 2016. 

The report says that the baby boomer generation will start to retire in 2016. Unless they are replaced  with skilled workers then the rate of growth of the labour pool will begin to slow. There will be increased pressure on Old Age Security and healthcare.

The UK universities minister David Willetts told a UK University conference that the government would act to reassure international students that they are still welcome in the UK. Mr Willetts was speaking two weeks after the UK Border Agency revoked London Metropolitan University's licence to teach students from outside the European Economic Area.

Academics warned the government that the decision would encourage international students to study in Australia, Canada and the USA. Mr Willetts said he was launching a £2m hardship fund to help students at London Metropolitan. He added that government would also place advertisements in newspapers in target countries encouraging students to study at UK universities.
