The Home Office, via the Working in the UK website, has given pre-announcement for a new training category for foreign-born medical professionals within the existing Training and Work Experience Scheme (TWES). Work permits and visa arrangements may now be performed through the new Medical Training Initiatives (MTI).

From September 1, nationals of a number of countries will be allowed to enter Bulgaria without visas and stay for up to 90 days within six months, the Cabinet decided on August 3.

Four ruling coalition lawmakers defied Australian leader John Howard on Thursday by rejecting tough new immigration laws, the most serious challenge to the prime minister's authority in his 10 years in power.

The laws mean all asylum seekers who arrive by boat in Australia would be sent to the remote Pacific island nation of Nauru while their claims are assessed.
