A new study has found that the US has seen a higher level of Asian immigration to the country than immigration of Hispanics; perhaps revealing a decrease in illegal immigration and increase in demand for highly-skilled workers.
US President Barack Obama has announced the US will stop the deportation of some illegal immigrant children. US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that as of June 11, 2012, the cap of 65,000 H-1B visa petitions has been met for fiscal year (FY) 2013. In addition, the 20,000 petition cap for the advanced degree H-1B visa was met on June 7, 2012."June 11, 2012, was the final receipt date for new H-1B specialty occupation petitions requesting an employment start date in FY 2013," said USCIS in a press release.

US Senator Patrick Leahy recently introduced legislation that would give permanent status for the EB-5 Regional Center program, also known as the Immigrant Investor Pilot Program. Additionally, the E-Verify program, "Conrad 30" J-1 program, and the Religious Worker immigrant visa would also be made permanent. In the past, Congress has granted all four programs temporary extensions, however all are set to expire at the end of this fiscal year on 30 September 2012.
US Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that, as of 1 June 2012, it has already received 55,600 H-1B visa cap-subject petitions out of the 65,000 available visas. Additionally, they have already received 18,700 H-1B visa petitions for foreigners with US advanced degrees out of the 20,000 available visas. This means that on 1 June 2012 there were only 9,400 visas left under the H-1B regular visa cap and 1,300 for the H-1B visa advanced degree level visa cap.
