According to Mexico’s Interior Minister, Adan Augusto Lopez, the Biden administration is set to offer up to 300,000 US work visas to Mexicans and Central Americans. Mexican President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is due to visit Washington in July, and Lopez claims the US visa offer will be proposed.

 

During a speech while visiting the Mexican border town of Tijuana, where he met a group of business leaders, Lopez said: “Every day we’re talking with the American government.” 

The US has hit 511 Russian military officers operating in Zaporizhzhia and Mariupol with US visa sanctions, while also sanctioning the Mayor of Melitopol and the Federal Security Service, the US Department of State (DoS) has confirmed. 

 

The US is reportedly on track to welcome 100,000 Ukrainian refugees, fleeing the conflict with Russia, this summer. According to official US immigration figures, 71,000 Ukrainians have already entered the US since March, meaning Biden’s pledge to receive 100,000 refugees from Ukraine is on course.

 

Currently, 15,000 have been welcomed into the US after being approved for sponsorship through the ‘Uniting for Ukraine’ program, according to data released by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 

Despite hopes that Israel would be welcomed into the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) by mid-2022, the Middle Eastern nation’s election could further delay its acceptance into the scheme. Legislation in Israel is still making its way through the Knesset to allow compliance with VWP rules.

 

The highly coveted US H1B visa is set to be modernised, according to proposals put forward by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The US intends to update the H1B program as part of its regulatory agenda for 2023, which could benefit tens of thousands of applicants, especially Indian nationals.

 

Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, has blasted US visa restrictions imposed on five Cuban officials. Mr Rodriguez said: “These are individual sanctions based on mendacious and absolutely unfounded accusations.” The US Department of State (DoS) took steps to impose the sanctions amid alleged human rights infringements.
