A new study claims that the UK visa and immigration is to blame for rising alcohol abuse among refugees. According to the study, poverty, social isolation and boredom among UK refugees and asylum seekers are major contributing factors toward excessive alcohol consumption.

 

With Britain in the grip of a second lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic, UK visa rules are forcing migrant NHS workers to leave the country, sparking fears of the UK’s response to COVID-19 being hampered. The British government recently refused to automatically extend UK visas for migrant NHS workers serving on the frontline in the fight against the disease.

 

The British government has imposed a UK immigration ban on people from or transiting through Denmark amid a mass coronavirus outbreak in the Scandinavian country. According to an official announcement, all non-UK nationals or resident travellers who have been in or passed through Denmark in the last 14 days will be refused UK entry.

Current Borders and UK Immigration Chief Inspector (ICIBI), David Bolt, has agreed to extend his time in the role until his replacement is found. Mr Bolt is set to step down this year but has agreed to remain in the post amid a ‘recruitment competition’ to appoint a new Chief Inspector.

Two Cambridge University institutions have been accused of supporting the Home Office’s UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) department’s hostile environment policy. The Cambridge Centre for Data-Driven Discovery (CD23) and Cambridge Neuroscience reportedly advertised jobs with the Border Vision Advisory Group (BVAG).
