According to an analysis of net migration carried out by The Independent, only 24 percent of migration to the UK since 1990 can be attributed to Britain's membership of the European Union.

Ahead of the EU referendum that took place on 23 June 2016, The Independentsaid that its findings quash exaggerated statements made by the Vote Leave campaign – along with The Sun newspaper and anti-immigration group, Migration Watch – about UK immigration and its connection with the country's membership of the EU.

There have been concerns about increasing levels of Xenophobia and racism during and after the recent EU Referendum. The Science and Technology Committee (STC) has urged the UK government to relax Tier 2 visa restrictions for IT companies with 20 or fewer employees. The STC, a government committee, said: "UK immigration policies need to be revised in order to help address the country's 'digital skills crisis.'"

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is set to launch a recruitment drive for foreign nurses from within and outside the European Union (EU). Nurses located in EU countries and looking to work in the UK are exempt from visa requirements. However, non-EU nurses will usually require a Tier 2 visa to work in Britain.

John Longworth, the former Director-General of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), has slammed UK immigration policy for allowing an 'unlimited' supply of migrant labour from the European Union (EU). Mr Longworth had previously been suspended from his position at the BCC because of his view that Britain should leave the EU. Following his suspension he decided to resign from the BCC.
