Some on the extreme right are using the coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) outbreak to spread fear about foreigners.  Currently about 70,000 people have become ill and 1,700 people have died mainly in China.

The Irish government has been slammed by the Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) for a ‘crippling skills shortage’ across the industry. According to the RAI, Irish restaurants are being forced to recruit from overseas in a bid to fill an estimated 8,000 vacancies.

According to a new survey, 80 percent of Irish people think that immigrants are integrated successfully in the country. The percentage represents the highest proportion of positive responses across all EU member states.

Data records compiled by the European Commission database, Eurostat, show that more than 28,000 non-EU citizens were denied entry into Ireland between 2008 and 2016. According to the data, 2,000 people refused entry are from countries recognised by the Government as conflict zones or areas of humanitarian concern.

Ireland’s Supreme Court has notified the State of its intention to make a formal declaration in February 2018, ruling that a total Irish general employment permit and visa ban that stops asylum seekers working in the country is unconstitutional. Five judges announced that its declaration will be made on February 9th, 2018.
